HERE IS THE RIVALS SHIRT! I am so happy with how this piece came out! I really wanted it to tell a story and I feel like it does exactly that, with the contrast of the young, naive rivals on the front, and the older, experienced versions of them on the back!
On the front, we have an embroidery of the duo from their childhood standing back to back! I went with this to symbolize how even though they were rivals and had conflicts with each other, at the end of the day, they always had each others’ backs. Behind the duo, we have the Mangekyou Sharingan design that they both shared in the anime, since one rival tragically passed away and gave his eye to the other. The colours and crispiness of this embroidery are unmatched, look at the closeups and see all the little details!
On the back, I went with a screenprint of one of the greatest, most iconic fights in anime history! This fight is when everyone was grown up and after each rival went their separate ways, one fighting to help humanity, and one fighting to destroy it. The art style from this print really emphasizes the moving lines, and makes it look like the characters are moving towards each other! In the closeups, you can almost feel the emotion that both characters were feeling during the battle, rage and anger for one, sadness and guilt for the other. I truly think this piece of one of my most cohesive ones between the transition from the front to the back, and really brings you back to where you were when you first watched this fight 🥲
All of this is on a beautiful acid washed blue/grey fabric! I went with this colour to mimic the Kamui Dimension that these two characters were fighting in, so even the fabric colour plays into the setting of the fight! I also changed the sizing for this shirt, making it a bit more oversized - take a look at the on-body shot and let me know what you think of the change!
